E-Os

by Kate Hagan

The E-Os collection. Collection includes a total of four rings for transporting USB_A to USB-C cords, and a decorative hair comb for storing standard SD cards

Project Description

E-Os is a series of functional jewellery designed around the protection and embellishment of vulnerable cords and electronic storage equipment. This project investigates the forms and materials available through 3D printing and digital modelling software that can be utilised to create unorthodox ways of carrying and protecting vulnerable electronic equipment. E-Os’ aesthetic theme is deeply inspired by natural forms of preservation, particularly that of the human spinal column, which is responsible for protecting our spinal cords, not unlike delicate electronic equipment.

This collection of work consists of four rings compatible with a USB to USB-C cord and a decorative hair piece designed to store a standard SD card. The rings allow for the user to comfortably interweave the cords around the hand, creating a new way of cord transportation and preservation. The hair piece, similarly, allows for a different form of SD card storage upon a wearable fashion piece.

As designers, we often find ourselves having to carry a range of electronics, dongles and adaptors with us as we travel to and from work/university. These items are often thrown in the bottom of computer bags where they are regularly damaged, tangled and lost. All these activities can jeopardise a digitally stored project. E-Os is an augmentation of the traditional protective cases for these types of electronics that reimagines approaches to common forms of equipment preservation.
