Your Turn
by Patrick Gutierrez
Project Description
The furniture-making industry’s movement towards mass-produced flat-pack pieces composed of low-quality materials has seen increasing amounts of wood waste sent to landfills. Existing sustainable design practices focus on product durability and recyclability. Further progress can be made by considering the end-user and understanding their values and needs.
Your Turn is the result of an exploration of consumer-product attachment. The involvement of the consumer in a simple design or assembly process has been observed to increase a product’s value. Your Turn facilitates involvement of the end-user in the design and assembly of a piece of furniture.
With a set of standardised parts, users can design and assemble furniture pieces to suit their tastes and needs. Oversized nuts and bolts eliminate the need for tools. Users can freely assemble and disassemble their furniture in varying configurations should their needs or tastes change.
Your Turn uses high quality, durable materials to allow users to enjoy a long ownership experience and facilitate sustainable disposal once necessary.
