Mod.U
by Chelsea Nguyen
Project Description
Mod.U is a modular solution for Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) treatments that involves a collective of products that work together to provide various relief and rehabilitative interactions.
The multipurpose systems start with the base product, a developed mouthpiece that is not visible when in use and provides comfort through its elastic and soft material choice of a medical-grade thermal polymer. If users were wanting additional treatments, they are offered an array of supports focused on providing support for the bottom molars, pressure attachments designed to release tension without intrusion of the hands or uncomfortable stretching, and a piece focused on stretch therapy for rehabilitative exercises.
The design focuses on eliminating the surface area of typical mouthguards whilst also ensuring fitted use. With the polymer, it can be stretched vertically to suit the width of a user's mouth with a backplate for support against the user's top front teeth. The product would undergo the injection moulding process along with its supporting additions, ensuring its compliance with dental fabrication guidelines.
Overall, the product focuses on ensuring a user-centric approach whilst considering medical functionality. The desire was to cultivate a stronger connection through versatility and convenience of use, whilst also empowering patients with security and comfort in their treatment.
