SSS Furniture – Interchangeable, Waterproof Furniture
by Annabelle Sghabi
Project Description
SSS Furniture was inspired by what I found to be a lack of post flood recovery furniture resources available to communities in regional NSW who had experienced a devastating flood. My project’s aim was to develop a new product that embodies an interchangeable furniture design for flood victims, investigating the opportunities for using recycled plastic as a waterproof material with low environmental impact. The product would aim to advance post-flood recovery resources, targeted at regional Australian flood victims and supporting their cognitive well-being, while taking into consideration the storage and modularity of the design.
This product is designed so that communities can purchase various parts and easily construct whatever piece of furniture they need. The pieces can form into a stool/small table, a chair with a backing and multiple storage variations. Each of the pieces can be stacked very easily and sit against each other, which limits the amount of space they take up for storage. This furniture pack can be purchased by individuals for the home or used in community spaces to reduce costs of replacing every item destroyed by flooding.
