Raiton

Project Description
Products are a part of our identity. We use them at every single moment, and throughout our life, we will go through many products, with only a few being long-lasting. Instead of focusing solely on product durability, we also need to design for emotional durability. My aim is to design a product that has a high potential of engaging the user in a long lasting emotional attachment and meaningfulness and has a long lasting life cycle. An effective design approach for this case would be sensory design.
My product, the Raiton, is a multisensory fidget tool. It appeals to 4 of the 5 senses: sight, touch, smell, and hearing. The Raiton incorporates a light stick, switchblade mechanism, tripod, and a diffuser. It is a product that can be used indoors as an electric scented light source or outdoors as a handheld or standing scented camping light. The Raiton features a terracotta diffuser so that it emits a softer fragrance as compared to conventional diffusers and the fragrance can also be switched to an insect repellent fragrance. The fidget features are addressed through the interaction of the retractable mechanism of the light stick component as well as the ergonomic overall balance and feel of the product.
