Project Description

Globally, over 80% of women suffer from painful periods, including symptoms of fatigue, mood swings, and headaches, resulting in a decrease in quality of life, energy levels, concentration, and emotional stability. Far too often, women are subjected to emotional neglect and shame in both social and professional settings for taking time off to recover. Sadly, the taboo and socially imposed stigmas surrounding menstruation have silenced many from openly discussing their struggle.

Alivia is a period-relief product with heated, weighted, and sensory features that alleviate the pain, discomfort and emotional disturbances that women suffer when they go through menstruation, to empower their daily abilities and improve the monthly experience.

The product consists of a cushioning and adjustable waist strap that tightens around the lower abdomen with an eco-friendly rice heat pack that provides constant heat to the painful area and soft hand pockets that aid in relaxing and comforting the user. Alivia effectively alleviates menstrual pain through functional and accessible heat therapy and relieves emotional symptoms with comfortable fabrics that evoke feelings of intimacy and comfort.

Similarly, the logo, packaging, instruction card, and overall brand identity effectively communicate the nature and purpose of the product. It successfully attracts the target audience and may create a future foundation for conscious discourses that redefine menstruation and its pain.

The product intervention delivers a solution that relieves pain and allows women to break free from socially imposed stigmas and claim freedom, flexibility, and empowerment. Alivia recognises women’s potential and thus, will enable them to continue participating in their daily activities and no longer be painfully trapped in their own biology every month of their younger lives.
