EK Metre

Project Description
To learn and stress the importance of user-centered design, the task was to redesign a hospital thermometer in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The EK Metre was designed to contactlessly measure, record, and send a patient's temperature to the hospital system, thus giving the nurse time to provide proper patient care.
The process of interviewing staff revealed concerns with understaffing and the lack of time given per patient, due to high levels of hand documentation.
EK Metre eases the stress of hand documentation and gives time back to the nurses under the additional pressure of treating COVID-19 patients. It also gives the patients, who can talk to a more approachable nurse, a chance to socialise.
Bio
Emily is an industrial designer with a passion for sustainable and user-centred design. Her strengths lie in her ability to create rapid prototypes informed by sketching and CAD modelling. During her studies, she has interned with 3D Printing Studios and DNSW, gaining valuable experiences in industrial 3D printing, project management and manufacturing. She has continued her growth by furthering her studies in project management and is currently interning at IDE.
