Mélomaine coffee table

Project Description

Mélomaine: Noun. An inordinate liking for music or melody: excessive or abnormal attraction to music.

The Mélomaine coffee table has been designed in response to our increasing need for multi-functional storage space in the home. Made primarily from Acacia hardwood and utilising traditional woodworking joinery, the solid timber provides a sturdy and durable tabletop. This is further accompanied by a repurposed removable glass shelf, heightening the conceptual aspects of the design and presenting a fun and unique opportunity for visible storage.

As revealed through the product's name, the element of music played an instrumental part in conceptualising this design. The acacia hardwood proves to be a complementary addition to the natural timbers of an acoustic piano and guitar. The angled legs of the table are held together through the use of steel wire stretchers in subtle recognition of the steel strings of a guitar, with the glass shelf revealing these steel stretchers and providing an appealing contrast to the density of the timber.

In this fashion, the table can be used to introduce music elements elegantly into the home or as an enhancement to these already present elements.
