Roterra

by Curtis Badman

An in-context keyshot rendering of the system in use.

A hero shot, displaying the different elements of the product.

A handle for rotating the drum and another for pulling out the drum are attached to the inner drum. The inner drum has a slide hatch to place organic waste in, as well as holes all around the body, so liquid fertiliser is able to be collected from the outer drum.

The tap at the bottom of the drum allows easily collection of liquid fertiliser

Project Description

Roterra, named through the combination of ‘rotate’ and ‘terra’ (meaning Earth), is a simple composting solution for limited outdoor areas, such as apartment balconies and small patio areas.

This system combines composting and small urban farming into one, stimulating habits that positively impact the planet.

Interactions with this composting system create a positive experience, simple yet satisfying, enhancing engagement with the natural process.

The drum is the feature of the system, disguising the smell and vision of natural waste.
