Coppice: Engaging with Nature

by Charlotte McCarthy

A biophilic form ensures a touch of nature even without plants

Project Description

In an our increasingly urbanised world, it is ever more important to connect with the natural environment as we witness rapid global fallout from our urbanisation. In order to mitigate these negative effects and prevent complete destruction of the natural environment, we not only need individual participation, we also need individuals to care.

This is where Coppice, a blend between desk and garden, comes in. Using a research-led approach, this product was designed with the intent of engaging users with nature to develop empathy, start conversations around conservation, and, by extension, increase pro-environmental behaviours. It leverages the health and well-being benefits of indoor plants to produce an aesthetically pleasing and functional product that turns any interior space into a slice of nature that can be customised to suit the user and the available plants.

If we let nature flourish inside, we are one step closer to helping it flourish outside too.
