Project Description

The project investigates the consideration of musculoskeletal disorders in office furniture in the environment of the home. The small existing market does not vary much in form and products are similar, especially in standing desks. Office workers, mainly designers, are thereby constrained and can benefit from an extended product range, especially where spatial design is key in-home offices that have less space. This project also investigates the built obsolescence of wooden goods and how a there is a cultural shift towards sustainability, with choices changing by manufacturer and consumer. As a chosen method, a renewable resource has been identified in bamboo and locally sourced spotted gum. The importance of this project is to employ strategies to inform a design-driven innovation in a piece of office furniture, in this case a caddy.
